"As a first time homebuyer, I knew very little about what to expect. Nancy made it easy. Her organization and attention to detail helped to ensure that my first home purchase went smoothly and with few surprises. She guided me through the process, step by step, providing insight for my decision-making but allowing me to stay in control. Because of all this, I found a terrific place at an unbelievable price. I moved in early October, and I couldn't be happier! I recommend Nancy to anyone who wants a friendly, thorough, and dedicated professional to help them through what can be a complicated ordeal."

A Brief History
 |

Humboldt Park, named for German scientist Alexander von Humboldt, became part of Chicago in 1869, and was initially populated predominantly by German, Polish, and Italian immigrants. Its proximity to hip (and comparatively more expensive) Wicker Park, Bucktown, and Logan Square gives it an eclectic yet subtle quality that is at once multicultural and gentrified.
The neighborhood's center is Humboldt Park itself, one of Chicago's largest parks, with 207 acres of beautifully landscaped greenery, beach, playgrounds, and running paths. In the summer, the park thrives with activity as picnickers, baseball teams, and bikers traverse the terrain; in winter, it's a charming place for ice-skating. The Humboldt Park Boathouse Pavilion, a Chicago landmark, overlooks the park's beautiful pond.
Humboldt Park residences are a mixture of preserved buildings, old frame houses, courtyard buildings, and relatively recent bungalows. Diverse shopping and dining options include many ethnic restaurants and retail establishments. The bar scene is also unique, with hot-spots such as the California Clipper (a pseudo-speakeasy), and the Black Beetle (a mellow lounge).
Nearby West Town comprises the northwest-side neighborhoods of Ukrainian Village, East Village, and Noble Square. Eastern European in character, these pockets contain ornate domed cathedrals, quaint bungalows, split-levels, and single-family homes. West Town has become a popular community for artists and musicians as well as yuppie hipsters. The lower cost of living here offers less-expensive housing with close proximity to more commercial neighborhoods, highways, and destinations like US Cellular Field (formerly Comiskey Park).
Fun Facts
- Michael Mann, creator of TV shows such as "Miami Vice" and "Crime Story" and director of films such as "Manhunter," "Heat," and "Collateral," grew up in Humboldt Park.
- Author Saul Bellow's novel "The Adventures of Augie March" is set in Humboldt Park, where Bellow grew up.
- There is a 12-foot bronze statue of Alexander von Humboldt in Humboldt Park; von Humboldt, in fact, has no real connection to Chicago other than having been admired by early German settlers here.
